Dress to Slim Your Middle – My Top 10 Tricks

Ways to hide your belly and slim your waist   If you’re thicker through the middle and always wanting to hide your belly, my first advice would be to take your focus off your belly!! You see…what you focus on is what you get, so start drawing your attention to another part of your body and watch those magic start to happen!!

  • Avoid garments that cling around the middle and accentuate the problem area. Instead choose tops that skim rather than cling and fall from below the bust.
  • Dresses or tops with an empire waistline can literally shave kilos off your body in an instant! These tops help to draw the eye away from your tummy, highlighting the smaller part of your torso giving you a great silhouette.
  • Think wrap dresses or tops. This will do the same as above and are great for a work environment or dressier occasions.
  • Get a professional bra fitting. When the “girls” are nice and high, it helps to separate the bust from the tummy making it easier to accentuate that smaller part which for most is under the bust.
  • One of my favorite secret tricks is to show a little cleavage or some leg to detract attention from my tummy. Remember the eye will go where you tell it to go, so a deep V neck will raise the eye up towards the face also giving you a longer neckline making you look longer and leaner, while showing a little leg will have the same affect (but of course drawing the eye In the opposite direction) Both ways will help to take the eye away from the tummy.
  • Opt for pants and skirts that don’t have any zips or buttons, as this will purely add more bulk that area.
  • High-waisted pants and leggings will be your best friends, as they flatter the legs, stomach and bottom. They will also tend to fit comfortably around your belly, finishing at the smallest part of your waist and not creating any extra lines or bulges (aka muffin tops) where we don’t want them. Again you want to create a smooth foundation around this area and not create bulk.
  • To dress up your leggings, there is always an abundance of gorgeous tunics and longer style tops to choose from. You just need to know where to shop.
  • One of the easiest ways to work with the body you have is to use fashion as an optical illusion. Vertical lines lead the eye up and down and have a slimming effect no matter where you place them. This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to wear stripes!! Layer with long open cardigans or wear jackets that create that vertical line through the centre of your body.
  • Get your spanks on!! Last but definitely not least is to wear shape wear or even high-waisted underwear. For most this will be a little uncomfortable for day to day dressing, however shape wear can really give you that instant lift and tuck for those special occasions.

  • • I always say that clothing is way more powerful than you think. For some of us it can actually have the power to make us FEEL confident, or on the flip side not the best version of ourselves, which is why I’m constantly asking my clients how they FEEL in their outfits when we are out shopping. I can truly believe clients look awesome in lots of options, but we only truly nail it when they are also feeling confident & comfortable in what they are wearing. We need to have both the looking and feeling good in alignment. Ever bought something you absolutely loved, but never ended up wearing it??? This could be just one of many the reasons why 😉#wearwhatmakesyouFEELgood #confidence #lovewhatyoudo #dowhatyoulove #transformation #clienttestimonial #personalstylist #personalshopper
  • • Slipped in a last minute cheeky shop for one incredibly gorgeous woman across from NZ this morning. All we needed was a dress for a wedding next week, but since we nailed that in the first 20 mins we thought we may as well add in some tops to take home too 😉 • #dressperfection @reiss #tops @veronikamaine_design @seedheritage #lovemyjob #shoppingmadeeasy #wearwhatmakesyoufeelgood #sortedinnotime
  • • This gorgeous woman had a wardrobe full of clothes, but nothing to wear.... Like if this sounds familiar? Earlier this week we started her “Sharpen your Style” package and went through the initial style consult to understand exactly how she wants to be perceived, then cleansed her wardrobe of anything that didn’t fit well or align with her new style & put together a hit list of what we needed to shop for to bring new life to her wardrobe! This shopping trip was all about trying new things & I’m chuffed to say we nailed it!! Even I’m having a little wardrobe envy right now 😍 • #newwardrobe #smartshopping #wearwhatmakesyoufeelgood #personalstylist #personalshopper
  • • A sneak peek at just one of our “yes piles” from last week shopping session • This was our final stop @davidjonesstore adding the missing pieces to complete her wardrobe. I know for a lot of people the thought of outlaying $$$ on clothing all in one go can be a little scary, however doing it this way means that we not only assure everything works back with each other, but make sure it’s works extremely hard. If you counted up all the single items that you buy over a year it would easily cost the same (if not more) but I bet most of you are still left with pieces (or what I call orphans) that don’t mix & match with anything 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s why I call it smart shopping 😉• #capsulewardrobe #wearwhatmakesyoufeelgood #smartshopping #personalstylist #personalshopper #mixandmatch
  • • I’m a hi-fiver, a hugger & sometimes if you’re really lucky I’ll break out into a dance if I’m super excited.... Why, because that’s me.... and it’s just how I roll 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think all things big & small should be celebrated, so when we have a win in the fitting room we should totally celebrate 🎉 😉 • #fridayvibes #wearwhatmakesyoufeelgood #lovewhatyoudo #dowhatyoulove #personalstylist #personalshopper #richmond #outfitoftheday #doyou
